How to Edit Canva Templates

Step 1: Access the Template Link

After your purchase, you’ll receive a PDF file containing the template link. Simply open the link using your Canva Free or Pro account, click “Use Template,” and you’ll have your own editable copy ready for customization.

Step 2: Edit the Design

Once you’ve made a copy of the template, you can start customizing it. Here are some common customization options:

Option 1:

  • Edit Text: Click on the existing text elements in the template and replace them with your own text. Modify the font, size, color, alignment, and other formatting options using the text editing toolbar.
  • Edit Images: Canva offers a convenient drag and drop feature that allows you to easily swap out the existing image with your preferred image, all without changing the layout. Navigate to the “Uploads” tab in the left sidebar to upload your own image from your computer. Once uploaded, drag and drop your image onto the template, positioning it in the same place as the previous image.
  • Edit Colors and Backgrounds: Modify the colors and backgrounds of various elements in the template. Select an element and use the color picker or enter specific color codes to change its appearance.
  • Edit Layout: Adjust the layout and arrangement of elements if needed. You can move, resize, or delete existing elements by selecting them and using the options available in the toolbar.
  • Edit Additional Elements: Add new elements to your design, such as shapes, lines, icons, or illustrations. These can be found in the “Elements” tab on the left sidebar. Simply click on an element and drag it onto your design canvas.

Option 2:

For Canva Pro users, you can simplify the customization process by using Canva’s Brand Kit feature. This feature automatically applies your brand colors, fonts & assets across the whole template. Learn more about setting up your Brand Kit here:

Editing Locked elements

The “Lock” feature of Canva avoids accidental modifications while editing other parts of your design. If you would like to edit a locked element within the template, click the locked element and look for the padlock icon on the element. Then, click it to unlock.

Step 3: Save and Download

Once you’ve made all the desired changes to the template, click the “Share” button in the top right corner of the Canva editor and then choose “Download”. Choose your preferred file format (e.g., JPG, PNG, PDF) and adjust any additional settings as needed. Then, click “Download” to save the design to your computer . And that’s it! You’ve successfully edited our Canva template.
